You can set the status of your created legend in the "My Legend" section of your team.

You can select the position you placed them in when you created them, you can choose to have them be your designated hitter, or you can place them on the inactives roster.

This is also where you can upgrade your player and their special skill. This allows you flexibility with Franchise Players or players who would gain you a bonus for an event.
